white women don’t seem to get that they’re no different than white men when it comes to their whiteness. suffering at the hands of patriarchy and sexism does not negate your white privilege nor your white entitlement.
the peculiar thing about gender as a marginalization is that you still grow up in a household with white men, you generally marry white men, and you still derive benefits and protection from their relatively higher class position than people of color (which includes men of color, you know). and you’re still white, anyway.
so many white women like to talk about white men being The Worst but you’re quite often riding their coattails and trying to be them all while not giving a fuck about women of color

when people of color become main characters, fandom rushes in to coo over white side characters because wow they are so much more interesting… (charlotte in the prince and the frog, stiles in teen wolf)
when people of color become romantic interests or are considered shippable by any facet of fandom, the rest of fandom shuts that down real quick because its not realistic (like with abbie from sleepy hollow), characterization clashes suddenly matter (tvd’s bonnie bennett or true blood’s tara thorton), or fandom is certain the character is more empowered foregoing romance entirely (mako mori from pacific rim.)
when people of color become villains? shit. don’t even try it. because fandom couldn’t sympathize with a black or brown characters tragic back story to make even their most ridiculous crackships come true.
it’s just… if you consume East Asian media the least you can do is showing us some respect? If you like Donnie Yen/kung fu movies don’t give your money to Iron Fist. If you like anime don’t call Genji, Hanzo and other Japanese characters in Western media ‘weeaboo’, and don’t go see Ghost In The Shell. If you like K-pop don’t say you have ‘yellow fever’ or whatever. 1) erases Sephardim, Mizrahim and Ashkenazim of color.
But also
2) shows your inability to consider complex narratives in an ethnoreligion older than the concept of race

If I’m talking to you about antisemitism your reaction should not be “I love Jews!”. Just take what I have to say seriously and don’t try to neutralize your discomfort by proclaiming your love for us. It’s gross.
