this is to educate my non-American followers. This really is how the US sees itself. (and yes, 95% of the time, Florida = WHAT?!)
In Florida the more North you go, the more “South” you get
In Florida the central part pretends to be the south, the western part pretends to be the northeast and the south pretends to be the west I’m not even kidding you
… Please tell me you guys are kidding.
Florida is like it’s own country I swear
I’m from Florida and I can confirm this. Also, South Florida is basically Miami and alligators.
oh, i always assumed florida was part of The South?
north florida is yes. The rest is not.
I’m from Florida, and grew up in SC/NC. Can confirm all true. 👍
Um. This is so wrong.
Texas is not in The South. Texas is Texas.
Texas is, like Florida, a thing unto itself.
Also, as a Southerner, West Virginia are not counted as being part of the The South.
Truth. The literal reason West Virginia exists was to not be counted as part of The South.
^what he said and also California is a country unto itself as well.
And that’s just for starters- gets way more granular than that within regions and states. Anyone who has lived in Virginia will tell you it’s like four separate states with each quadrant very different from the other three. Upstate and Downstate NY are different from each other, and my cousins from the western border of NYS talk with a flat, midwestern accent.
As a transplant to California, nah, not different enough to be a thing unto itself the way Florida and Texas are. It’s a variance within region that I could probably reasonably lump Nevada into as well, not some unholy thing unto itself. I do agree on Virginia being split, because my Southern self stared at it for a long time, going, MAYBE HALF…
This map might be a tad more accurate.
Still not totally accurate. Living in Arizona we always reference the “southwest” which is like southern Cali over to Nevada/Utah/Colorado and Arizona and New Mexico. I don’t know what the states above that are considered but there is definitely a clear separation there not just “West”. We need another map!
